I had the chance to participate in an NFT mint for the Claynosaurz collection. Guess what? I successfully minted a Claynosaur!
My view on NFTs
First things first: I am not an fan of NFTs, to say the least. The entire phenomenon is probably one of the greatest disappointments for me in the world of crypto and blockchain in general. When I first learned about the possibilities that the technology would unlock, I never could have envisioned that it will be used to masterfully inflate prices of cartoon jpegs just to pull the rug at the top.
My original idea was that it could revolutionize the world of art, modern artists could finally earn a decent share of the proceeds they had been missing out on, the entire art market would be democratized, for the benefit of all. Even though there are some rare examples where this was actually working – see the works of Deekay and their sell prices – the majority of the NFTs was made to extract crypto from the buyers. In the end, some crafty grifters got wealthy, buyers got scammed, artists were left in a worse place than before.
What has changed?
I have been following the NFT space with minimal attention, just seeing how much value has been lost to NFT scams and not long ago it started to feel like prices are hitting the bottom and a much needed cleansing has been done.
Moreover, recently I have bought a Saga phone – a project by the Solana team, manufactured by OSOM. One of the key features of the phone is its integrated crypto wallet. Here users can easily swap assets, including NFTs. Participating in the pre-sale promotion of the phone, I became eligible for some NFT mints, which means that I had the option to participate in some lottery type of airdrops. Given my stance on the entire topic, I did not bother too much.
Today, I got a notification from the dApp Store of my Saga phone that the Claynosaurz mint is going live soon. As I was eligible for participation in the minting process, I tried my luck:
I really did not expect to win anything, but seems like lady luck was with me today. Checking the floor price of this specific NFT that I minted, seems like a rather decent deal, as it is close to what I paid for the phone originally. Not bad!
Am I selling?
For the time being, I will not sell the NFT, I would rather wait until all the mints are done, and see how the prices change. Should I get lucky with the sale of this piece in the future, I might be turning some profits by buying the Solana phone in the first place.
